Goals:
To work jointly with appointed staff from BNPB to undertake research (primary field but also desk-based) and to produce an easily accessible, succinct report on how the ongoing response in being implemented, particularly in terms of ten specific areas of focus. The lessons highlighted from this consultancy will be used to inform the ongoing development of the NDRF and the related work of government and non-government actors and the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, with the aim of improving future responses.

Project Summary
On July and August 2018, a series of earthquakes hits Lombok dan Sumbawa. As a result, there are a total of 564 deaths and 417,529 people displaced. Thus, on 6 August, the Humanitarian Country Team (HCT) and the Indonesia National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) agreed to carry out a lessons learned documentation of the earthquake response. This document is to further improve the disaster response management in Indonesia.

This learning contains six focuses.
1. Triggers describes the dynamics of situation and their relating main actions.
2. Coordination and Command tries to understand the Disaster Emergency Response Command System and its position within the broader coordination system.
3. The role of Data, Information and Communication is learned as the 'backbone' of coordination and decision making.
4. Partnership and Technical Assistance portrays the implementation of collaboration between the Government and non-government actors, as well as specific supports that can improve the response quality.
5. Community Empowerment provides reflections whether people voices were heard in the response decision and action.
6. Attention for Vulnerable Groups who are often affected the most in the event of a disaster.
